POTTSVILLE  DISASTER RECOVERY PROGRAM

The Pottsville Community Association is working in conjunction with Together Pottsville to start up a Disaster Recovery Volunteer Program.

There are a number of conditions that have to be met before this program can be up and running.

One of them is that the Pottsville area has to have a number of volunteers that are trained and can step up in the case of an emergency and assist with the functioning of the Evacuation Centre. At this stage we are hoping that the Pottsville Community Hall will be approved as our Evacuation Centre.

Pottsville is a unique situation and if there is a need for the Evacuation Centre to be called on to be used it would only be for a couple of days which would be easy for volunteers to man.

There are other conditions that the leadership group need to work through, however this is an easy first step for us to work towards having the Pottsville Community Hall open in the case of an emergency. So, calling interested and concerned residents that feel they are up to the task of assisting the community in an emergency situation.

Anglicare provide all training free of charge. Essentially the volunteers are providing support to people in distress. No religious affiliation is needed.

We are looking for at least 10 – 12 volunteers.
